Emily Walton

I am a general civil litigator with expertise in contract dispute work including commercial contract disputes, construction and defective building disputes, insurance and shareholder disputes.

In 2023 I joined Bridgeside Chambers after 12 years as a partner in the litigation team at Wynn Williams. I act in District and High Court litigation, appearing occasionally in the Court of Appeal. I regularly work do Construction Contracts Act and other commercial adjudications.

I am also a very experienced and skilled mediation counsel. I am approachable, pragmatic and commercial. I am a problem solver.

I am also a leading New Zealand lawyer in the natural disaster space, advising insurers, homeowners and local authorities on disaster response and claims. This includes the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes, the Auckland Anniversary flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle and other extreme weather events around the country. I work with Engineering New Zealand and other organizations in this space.

I also sit on two boards, which provides real insight into the commercial drivers and realities for these organisations, which I can tap into in my legal work.

I have been recommended and recognised as a Leading Individual by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific for my work.
